The City of Gatlinburg will be honoring U.S. Military Veterans and Military Heroes this year as a feature of the parade, followed by a virtual multitude of events on the day of July 4th, including the River Raft Regatta at noon on the 4th, and a spectacular 20-minute long fireworks display at 10:00 PM the night of July 4th, in the heart of downtown Gatlinburg. Father’s Day itself was first commemorated back on June 19, 1910, in the State of Washington, and was born out of originally Mother’s Day, which was proclaimed by then-President Woodrow Wilson as an official holiday in 1914. Father’s Day itself would not be recognized as a nationwide holiday until 1972, when it was officially recognized by President Richard Nixon.
