On Saturday, June 6, 2014, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be celebrating National Trails Day, with a special work day event being held to help maintain the National Park. This event is being coordinated by Friends of the Smokies, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Regional Office, and the Smoky Mountain Hiking Club, and will feature projects ranging from cleaning & replacing water bars, rehabilitating steps & turnpikes, to improving trail tread on sections of the Appalachian Trail. There will also be a picnic at the end of the day, located at the Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area for those who register for the event.
