Great Smoky Mountains National Park Is Once Again Open!

November In The Smokies

On Wednesday morning, roads and trails into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park were finally re-opened, 15 days after being closed due to the recent government shutdown. Traffic was lined up outside the Townsend entrance to the park before it opened as tourists waited to enter. A ceremony celebrating the reopening had to be moved to the Tremont campground because of the traffic.

“We had traffic backed up at the Sugarlands and we also had traffic backed up from here at the “Y”  all the way into Townsend,” said Blount County Mayor Ed Mitchell. “That gives you an idea of what we were missing on a daily basis by this park being shut.”

Due a recent deal between Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, as well as support from county leaders in Sevier and Blount Counties, the park was temporarily re-opened from Wednesday, October 16th, until this Sunday, October 20th, at 11:59 P.M. However, the recent ending of the government shutdown as of last evening by the federal government further means that the National Park will remain open for the foreseeable future, past this Sunday at 11:59 P.M.

The National Park costs $60,100 to operate per day, according to the National Park Service. Prior to the resolution of the shutdown last evening, it would take $300,500 to keep the park open for the five days called for in the state-to-state brokered deal. All national parks were closed October 1 when Congress failed to pass a funding bill, leading to a partial government shutdown. However, the federal government agreed last week to allow states to re-open national parks if they paid for the operating costs. In addition, bills introduced in the U.S. House and Senate would reimburse states within 90 days for any costs associated with reopening the parks during the shutdown. Now that there is a resolution to the shutdown by the federal government as of last evening, the National Park is on track to remain open for the foreseeable future.

What does this all mean? For now and into the foreseeable future, it appears that the National Park will be open, and will remain open, to the public, following the last evening’s resolution to the recent government shutdown by the federal government. This comes during the middle of the changing of the leaves in the fall season here in the Smokies, which attracts many people to the area every year and is expected to do so again this year.

While enjoying the wonder and splendor of the Great Smoky Mountains, as well as the now re-opened National Park, why not see what else the Smokies can offer you? Please feel free to browse our available properties, and see what is available for you if you are thinking about buying a new home in the area. Let our team help you realize your home ownership dreams today, as we have many great properties available!

Enjoy the Late Season Holidays From a Choice of Mountain Homes

Gatlinburg real estate and surrounding communities of the Tennessee Smokies provide visitors with an awesome variety of wonderful places to stay.  Their diverse selection of lodging allows for an intimate participation in the many activities of the area.  Some might dispute me, but the late year festivities really amp up going into November.  There is an excitment akin to dropping the starting flag at a NASCAR race track.  When the autumn colors fade, with the dropping leaves, and cooling temperatures, the magic and tempo build.  Currently, we are through withThanksgiving and the race to the year end holidays is on.

For those of you coming to the area, and for those still undecided, here is just a fraction of the local events that you could enjoy. Previously, we mentioned that Winter festivals began in early November.  These commence county-wide holiday lighting displays that are awesome.  These lights can be enjoyed independently from your own car tour or they can be viewed communally from trolley rides in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.  There is also a fantastic synchronized lighting display almost 1 mile long called “Christmas Wonderland at Smokies Stadium” just off I-40.  Pricing and times can be pulled up online.

Many shopping events occur all over the area.  These events cater to all members of the family.  There are; knife, tool, auto, and outdoor sports locations.  Other stores and festivities cater to; clothing, housewares, interior decorations, and arts and crafts.  There are physical activities such as; small miniature golf courses, huge amusement parks like Dollywood, or ski area like Ober Gatlinburg to name a few.   If you can dream it, this area probably has it.

The events and amenities available in the East Tennessee Smokies are way beyond the scope of this blog.  To find fun activities that appeal to your friends and family, search online.  The options allow you to proceed at your pace and in your timing.  This same approach can apply to finding a great real estate investment in the area.  Go on our website, and set your own property search criteria.  We can tailor everything to your lifestyle, and your convenience.  You save valuable time, looking at only those items, that match your needs.  When it is time to appear in person, our experienced personnel are here to help you seal the deal.  Go online and start today or call us at 877-678-2121!

Time to Buy a Gatlinburg Home for Sale? Check out events for July!

4th of July Activities In SmokiesIf you have been viewing Gatlinburg homes for sale, now could be a great time to buy.  I recommend that buyers begin their property search online.  In the quiet, undisturbed peace of your own environment, you can set up personalized selection parameters.  This allows you to view a great variety of properties.  The awesome aspect of the online search is personal convenience.  You can take as much time as you want. Your search becomes personalized, catering to your desires.  There are no time constraints except the possible sale of a desireable house or property.  However, when you reach that point where you must view the real estate in person, our team of professionals are ready to assist you.  We suggest that your property search should coincide with our area’s local events.  Either time your visit to hit on an activity of interest or avoid activities that you have no interest.  This maximizes your time spent in the East Tennessee Smokies.  Moments spent outside the quest for property can offer you fun entertainment.  This mix of business with pleasure can help balance the overall decision-making process.

In keeping with this concept, we hope to give you a brief taste of a few of the area’s many upcoming festivities.  This is a tall order because of the multitude of activities and events this area offers.  Hopefully, our blog will motivate you to check online sites at; Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and surrounding areas for more details and other activities too numerous to list here.  At least this will help get you started to plan your trip to the Smokies.

The July 4th holiday is a good time to travel, because of most people’s vacation schedules.  There is much happening in the Smokies.  Gatlinburg kicks off the July 4th celebrations with their 35th consecutive year of a midnight Independence Day Parade,  beginning at midnight on July 3rd.  In past years, close to 100,000 spectators have watched a mile long parade salute the courageous men and women who helped win our independence.  The parade will include; floats, marching bands, equestrians, military personnel, and much more.  Outdoor food, concerts, and fireworks will highlight the festivities.  For history buffs, you can start on Friday July 2nd in Gatlinburg as the Southern Guard Brigade returns to reinact the “Battle of Burg Hill” on the field near Mills Park.  The actual reenactment is on Saturday and Sunday, July 3rd and 4th.  Pigeon Forge kicks off Independence Day celebrations on July 2nd with Music on the Square at Old Mill Square, followed by their 20th Annual Patriot Festival on July 3rd with outdoor food, shopping and fireworks as the holiday progresses.  Events continue to unfold as July counts down with a Girls Slowpitch Softball World Series, Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair, Girl’s Fastpitch Softball World Series, Musical Concerts, and Vintage Open Car Shows.

Plan ahead to be part of the fun and contact the Jason White Team to find real estate in the area to keep you coming back.
