Smoky Mountain Civil War Relic Show and Sale in Pigeon Forge This Weekend!

Civil_War_Reenactment_2

This weekend, Pigeon Forge will be the host for the 4th annual Smoky Mountain Civil War Relic Show and Sale, located at 4010 Parkway in Pigeon Forge (Smoky Mountain Convention Center). This unique event will be like a step back in time over 150 years, to one of the most significant periods in American history – the Civil War.

Featured at this event will include authentic Civil War era muskets, rifles, pistols, photographs, and uniforms, along with other relics, artifacts, and other collectibles. Collectors from all over the country will come to buy, sell, and talk about these varied and valuable artifacts.

In addition to over a hundred tables filled with relics, the Civil War event will include exciting historical reenactments and artillery demonstrations. Actors portraying famous military figures from the Civil War such as General Robert E. Lee and General Ulysses S. Grant will interact with attendees and answer their questions about the war. People who come to the event will also have the chance to investigate their ancestors’ participation in Pigeon Forge history, with help from onsite genealogy researchers.

This year’s show will feature authentic Civil War era songs performed by multi-instrumentalist Mike Scott, out of Hendersonville, TN, who recently released an album of wartime music, Home Sweet Home: Instrumental Tribute to the Civil War Era of Songs. Also, there will be an appearance Gerald Augustus, who is the author of the book The Loudon County Area of East Tennessee in the War 1861-1865, and will  speak about the importance of preserving the land where Civil War battles were fought.

Tickets for both Saturday and Sunday only cost $8.00 for adults and $4.00 for children ages 12 and under. The event will last from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Nestled In The Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge Is A Great Place To Call Home

This month we would like to shine the spotlight on the quaint mountain town of Pigeon Forge. Let’s take a look at some of the history of this town and everything it has to offer to today’s home buyer.

Surrounded by the blue mist of the Great Smoky Mountains, the community of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is filled with rivers and streams, waterfalls and native flowering plants and trees. Pigeon Forge is packed with southern hospitality and as many as 11 million tourists visit each year making the town not only one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the southern states, but a charming real estate market with a strong economy.

Located along Highway 441 only five miles from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge is an action-packed town nestled in the breathtaking setting of eastern Tennessee. It is a wonderful place to call home, or to invest in a home away from home. Some of the more popular attractions in Pigeon Forge are the Dollywood theme park and water park, golf courses with rolling hills, tubing, hiking, backpacking, camping, horseback riding and helicopter rides over the misty blue mountains. Follow any of these activities with dinner at one of many diverse restaurants offering cuisines to inspire all tastes.

Ultimately, the greatest appeal of Pigeon Forge is the natural surroundings that boast four distinct and mild seasons to satisfy the lifestyles of all residents and visitors alike. If the never-ending recreational opportunities of this outdoor mecca do not inspire homebuyers, perhaps they will be by the distinction given by Southern Living Magazine Readers™ Choice Award in 1996 as being the shopping paradise of the south, with unlimited outlet malls and retail shops, surrounded by a thriving real estate market.

One of the earliest settlers to the Little Pigeon River in the Sevier County region was a man named Richard Fanshiers, and the town held his name, Fanshiers, until the early 1800s. Along the beautiful river that flowed through the land grew beech trees and the beech nuts feed the now extinct species of Passenger Pigeons that flocked to the river. In 1820, Isaac Love built an iron forge along the river, and in 1841 a post office was established under the name of Pigeon Forge. In 1885, a mill was built in the location and is still in operation today, using the same machinery. The mill is a National Historic Landmark and a proud part of the history of Pigeon Forge.

In 1946, changing the face of history, an old tobacco barn was sold and became Pigeon Forge Pottery. This sale officially marked the first tourism-related business in the region and the beginning of what would transform cornfields into tourist attractions to create the backbone of the local economy. This once sleepy mountain community is now a bustling real estate market in Pigeon Forge offering single family homes, cozy or resort style log cabin homes with stunning mountain vistas, gated communities, condos and townhomes, golf course homes and large estate homes. Sevier County is proud of its low crime rate, exceptional educational systems and healthcare, along with a booming work environment.

The small town atmosphere of Pigeon Forge, filled with genuine southern charm and hospitality, is one of the other many reasons to call this community home. Homes for sale in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee are reasonably priced and exceptional in value. Buyers looking to relocate or invest in a second home, will find the real estate market in Pigeon Forge to be varied in styles and amenities, offering mountain charm and modern conveniences, surrounded by the tranquility and hanging blue mist of the Great Smoky Mountains.

With something for everyone, why not take a look at all the real estate choices Pigeon Forge has to offer. You can start by browsing available homes at our website.

Saddle Up & Come Visit The Great Smoky Mountains In February

As many of you know The Great Smoky Mountain region boasts numerous festivals and events to celebrate the Appalachian heritage. No matter what time of year you find yourself visiting you can be sure there is something exciting going on. February is no exception, with the 12th Annual Saddle Up event beginning on February 23rd. Let’s take a look at what all the buzz is about.

There is truly something for everyone at this four-day celebration. It has been listed in American Cowboy Magazine’s list of “Top 101 Western Events”. You can start things off at 10:00 AM on Wednesday with a cornbread tasting at Old Mill Square. From there you have your pick of locations and artists for dinner and intimate concerts on Thursday evening. Friday features three concerts throughout the day featuring top western artists. Many of the artists at the newest addition to the event, the “Stories & Strings” concert, have never performed together and it may truly be a once in a lifetime event. Saturday offers a wide variety of activities including western dance and things finish up on Sunday with a chuck wagon breakfast and cowboy church service. You can find the full schedule of events here.

We have had a remarkably warm winter here in the Great Smoky Mountains and now is a beautiful time to visit the area. In addition to the Saddle Up event, it is a great time to get into the outdoors. With the weather this nice there are beautiful hiking opportunities and plenty of wildlife sightings. Ober Gatlinburg is open as well and offers a multitude of activities from ice skating, a ride up the mountain side on the aerial tram to skiing & snow boarding (weather permitting). Visit Ober’s site to see the wide variety of year round fun in the mountains they have to offer.

We are seeing a large number of new listings come on to the market as activity has picked up and the Smoky Mountain market has remained reasonably stable. Now may be a great time to plan a get away to the mountains to take advantage of all the activities and to begin the search for your home away from home in the mountains. Start by visiting our website to begin your search or by emailing us for a free area information packet.

Folks in Gatlinburg Homes and Across Our Nation Love a Great Fourth of July Celebration

Gatlinburg properties and nearby locations in the Tennessee Smokies get a front row seat for some awesome July 4th festivities.  That is why we wanted to provide our blog readers with some early notice for this area’s fine activities that celebrate our nation’s birthday.  Gatlinburg will begin it’s 36th year for the first 4th of July parade in the country.  The parade line-up begins late on July 3rd and the parade starts on the stroke of midnight when the clock ticks over to July 4th.  There will be approximately 100,000 spectators viewing the parade participants.  The event is highly patriotic with an emphasis that honors current and past military personnel.  These individuals have served this country by risking their lives for our freedom.  The parade highlights their sacrifice.  The procession is over a mile long and has a variety of components from elaborate floats to marching bands.  More detail are available via Gatlinburg’s website.

Another key element on the area’s July 4th celebration is Restless Heart.  They will headline at the Patriot Festival in Pigeon Forge on their 4th of July celebration.  The group had 4 gold albums and six #1 country singles in the early 1980’s  Additional flavor will be provided by The Return , a Beatles tribute band and Jimbo Whaley & Greenbrier, a local bluegrass group.  All of this entertainment is free, courtesty of the City of Pigeon Forge.

Other area events include an Indepence Day sidewalk sale at the Beltz Outlet stores.  Downtown Gatlinburg hosts a great fireworks display downtown on July 4th at 10pm. Pigeon Forge also has a fireworks display on July 4th at Patriot Park.

We present many of these events to entice you to come and visit.  However, there is nothing quite like owning property here in the Smokies.  When you own something in the area, you can visit based on your schedule.  Venture on our website and look for something that fills your needs. Once you find it our expert staff is ready to help you seal the deal.  Begin today to find your home in the Smokies!!
