U.S. Housing Market on Track for Best Year Since 2006

According to a recent article by Realtor.com, the U.S. housing market is currently on track for its best year since 2006, prior to the Great Recession of 2008. There are a myriad of factors of this recent optimism, and some of these factors will be mentioned here. First, recent job growth nationally has fueled the current housing market nationally, with more than 3 million new jobs created on the national level in the last 12 months alone, with 1 million of those new jobs taking place among 25-34 year olds, which the age in which most people begin looking to buy their first home. There also has been a record amount of Internet traffic at Realtor.com, with their site seeing twice the amount of web traffic of other sites, which have seen an average of 15% year-over-year traffic on their websites, as well. Also, with greater demand, there have been higher sales nationally, as well, with the median age of inventory being 66 days on the market this year, which is 8 days faster than last year, with some areas going even faster than the median age of inventory for this year. Finally, higher home prices nationally are starting to moderate somewhat, allowing for greater potential affordability in the market as a whole. These trends, and many more, on the national level show a real estate market that showing growth, and will likely continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
