Plan Now For A November Visit To The Smoky Mountains

November is the kick off of many Smoky Mountain events that are sure to add a touch of seasonal dazzle to your trip. With so many activities to choose from now is the time to plan your visit. Let’s take a tour of the many reasons this is such an exciting time to visit the area.

As fall transitions into winter you have the opportunity to get the best of both seasons in early to mid November as it is not unusual for the showy display of fall leaf color to continue in the mountains. Even if your trip misses the autumn display you can still take a peek at the change via the Purchase Knob live web cam by visiting this National Park Service website.

Fall festivities will continue at Ober Gatlinburg through November 4th with Oktoberfest. From there Ober will move onto an early start to snow season around Thanksgiving with the addition of two new snow machines. In celebration of their 50th anniversary, Jerry Huskey from Ober says the machines will help them get tubing open earlier and hopefully give them a jump start across the board. See the new machines at work via live web cam and take a look at all of the other activities Ober has to offer by visiting www.obergatlinburg.com.

For an early taste of Christmas in the Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge will kick off Winterfest on November 6th. Enjoy the season’s spirit throughout town with over five million lights on display and a number of special events, shows and activities for everyone. The Pigeon Forge trolley will be operating a tour of lights allowing you to sit back, relax and take it all in. On November 7th, Gatlinburg will follow suit with an impressive fireworks display at dusk to mark the beginning of Gatlinburg Winter Magic and the Annual Chili Cook Off. Over 20 chili vendors will serve up their best recipes and you get to be the judge for the People’s Choice Award. Admission is only $8 and once you have had a sampling of the region’s mouth watering homemade chili there will be the “flip of the switch” on Gatlinburg’s light display with over three million lights.

November is a great time to take in a combination of two of the most beautiful seasons in the Smoky Mountains and you will find no lack of adventures for your trip. With the festivals above, an early opening of Ober Gatlinburg, live entertainment and great shopping opportunities there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.
