Gatlinburg Fall Leaves

The fall season is a special time for visitors and residents of Sevier County, and this fall is no exception. With the changing of the leaves, there are many great activities currently underway and ongoing that brings in people from hundreds of miles away in our area. This week’s blog features at least three of the major fall festivals currently going on as we speak, and help to create a wonderful time of year here in the Great Smoky Mountains.

One festival currently going right here in Gatlinburg is the 38th Annual Fall Craftsmen’s Fair, which last until this Sunday, October 27th, at the Gatlinburg Convention Center in downtown Gatlinburg. This fair is held twice a year, in the summer and the fall seasons, and attracts lots of visitors and artists to the Gatlinburg area. For more information, please visit http://www.craftsmenfair.com/fall-fair.php or http://www.gatlinburg.com/events/details.aspx?id=10.

People wanting to go can take the 120-passenger Aerial Tramway from downtown Gatlinburg to Ober Gatlinburg, and also see the Wildlife Encounter at Ober Gatlinburg, including the Municipal Black Bear Habitat and Birds of Prey exhibits, among other attractions. At Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, the National Southern Gospel and Harvest Celebration is currently underway, starting on October 2nd, and lasting until November 2nd, at Dollywood. Every Season Is A Great Time To Visit The Smokies

Rainbow Falls 2Visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will find a different kind of beauty in every season. Let’s explore a little bit of what rewards each season in the Smokies has to offer.

Spring offers the ever changing display of wildflowers. This year the 63rd Annual Wildflower Pilgrimage will be held from April 24th through April 28th. Participants will enjoy seminars, guided tours and more. Dating back to 1951, the event offers over 150 programs with something for everyone from the serious botanist to the weekend gardener.

Summer hiking gives you the opportunity to follow a trail to a cool retreat in a mountain stream or enjoying the numerous water falls throughout the Smokies. Abrams Falls is a popular spot for hikers. At only 20 feet high it may seem inconsequential, however there is a huge volume of water rushing over the falls making it a fantastic experience. Trillium Gap Trail offers you the opportunity to stand behind the 25 foot high waterfall after wandering through old growth hemlock forest. These are just a few of the nature experiences that await summer visitors.

Fall is a favorite time of many to visit the mountains as they show off a brilliant display of color as the leaves change. The change usually spans over seven weeks with different elevations showing its unique variety of trees and colors at different times. Mid September is a great time to view colors at higher elevations from a location such as Clingman’s Dome. A hike to higher elevations such as Mt. LeConte or Andrews Bald would be sure to deliver beautiful autumn views. Early through mid October provide a wide diversity of colors as the mid and lower elevations begin to change and include many varieties of very colorful trees.

Not to be dismissed, winter in the Smokies offers it’s own kind of sparkle. With many trees bare, mountain vistas open up that are normally hidden. It is a great time to see stone walls, chimneys and snow capped mountain peaks. Not up for a winter hike? Enjoy time at Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort tubing, ice skating, snowboarding or skiing. Sevierville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Dollywood all offer a wide variety of winter activities as their Winterfest festivals kick off. You can enjoy parades, shows, brilliant light displays and much more.

The market is picking up so far for 2013. Why not schedule a winter or spring visit, relax in a mountain cabin and take a look at a few that are ? You may just find yourself purchasing a second home in the mountains so you can easily enjoy all four seasons.

Plan Now For A November Visit To The Smoky Mountains

November is the kick off of many Smoky Mountain events that are sure to add a touch of seasonal dazzle to your trip. With so many activities to choose from now is the time to plan your visit. Let’s take a tour of the many reasons this is such an exciting time to visit the area.

As fall transitions into winter you have the opportunity to get the best of both seasons in early to mid November as it is not unusual for the showy display of fall leaf color to continue in the mountains. Even if your trip misses the autumn display you can still take a peek at the change via the Purchase Knob by visiting this National Park Service .

Fall festivities will continue at Ober Gatlinburg through November 4th with Oktoberfest. From there Ober will move onto an early start to snow season around Thanksgiving with the addition of two new snow machines. In celebration of their 50th anniversary, Jerry Huskey from Ober says the machines will help them get tubing open earlier and hopefully give them a jump start across the board. See the new machines at work via live web cam and take a look at all of the other activities Ober has to offer by visiting www.obergatlinburg.com.

For an early taste of Christmas in the Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge will kick off Winterfest on November 6th. Enjoy the season’s spirit throughout town with over five million lights on display and a number of special events, shows and activities for everyone. The Pigeon Forge trolley will be operating a tour of lights allowing you to sit back, relax and take it all in. On November 7th, Gatlinburg will follow suit with an impressive fireworks display at dusk to mark the beginning of Gatlinburg Winter Magic and the Annual Chili Cook Off. Over 20 chili vendors will serve up their best recipes and you get to be the judge for the People’s Choice Award. Admission is only $8 and once you have had a sampling of the region’s mouth watering homemade chili there will be the “flip of the switch” on Gatlinburg’s light display with over three million lights.

November is a great time to take in a combination of two of the most beautiful seasons in the Smoky Mountains and you will find no lack of adventures for your trip. With the festivals above, an early opening of Ober Gatlinburg, live entertainment and great shopping opportunities there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.

Want to make your visit to the Smokies stress free no matter what season it is? Take a look at all of the on the market and you will see how easy it can be to find a perfect “home away from home”. Purchasing an investment in the Smoky Mountains will give you the chance to have a personal retreat and generate income with a rental program when you aren’t using it. Let us help you along the path to putting together your Smoky Mountain dreams.

With Fall Around The Corner Gatlinburg Is Full Of Activity

The Grand Fall Rod Run in Pigeon Forge is being held this weekend. Though it is one of the most anticipated events in the region each year for those who love classic cars it is far from being the end of events for the year. If you were unable to make it to the show there are plenty more activities and sights to see in the Great Smoky Mountains this fall. With the breath taking color display in the mountains from the changing of the leaves right around the corner, there are several events planned that make now a great time to visit the area.

Today starts the Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival which will continue through October 31st. Throughout Gatlinburg you will enjoy local craft displays, hayrides and much more as this mountain town celebrates fall in the Smokies. On Thursday, September 27th the Gatlinburg Convention Center will host Gatlinburg’s . Tickets are $25 and all proceeds will be donated to charity. At the event you will enjoy unlimited samples from numerous area restaurants and attractions. From five until eight that evening, live jazz music performed by Millie Palmer Jazz will set the background for dancing and a great day of entertainment.

The Smoky Mountain will be held on September 29th & 30th, Ripley’s Haunted Adventure will be celebrating it’s 14th annual show beginning on October 5th and the Gatlinburg will bring the nation’s finest artisans to the area again from October 11th until the 28th.

These are all great reasons to come take part in celebrating fall in the Smokies but of course one of the biggest attractions will be the vibrant leaf display taking place in the mountains. If you love to hike, the National Park is a great guide for suggested trails for all skill levels however a drive through Cades Cove or along the Roaring Fork Motor Trail are also fantastic ways to take in the beauty of fall in the Smoky Mountains.

It is a great time to plan a trip to the area, but what if you could eliminate the stress of finding a place to stay? Or get rid of the worry that you won’t be comfortable in your accommodations when you get here? Owning a second home in the Gatlinburg area is a certain way to avoid these hassles and make sure that each trip you make to the Smoky Mountains will offer you the peace and serenity that you deserve on your vacation. There are many to choose from and we believe there is a mountain get away that is perfect for you. Spend some time available properties on our website, plan an autumn visit and let us know if you would like to begin the search for your home away from home while you are in the area.

Day By Day Autumn Leaves Are Amping Up Their Intensity, Deals On Smoky Mountain Real Estate Are Also Increasing!

Mountain homes all over our area could potentially offer you the dream property you always wanted. That Smoky Mountain location could provide one of the best leaf viewing sites in North America. While this may appear to be a boastful statement, there are many leaf viewers who would agree.

The Smokies have a diversity of plants and trees that rival equatorial rain forests. This tremendous variety of plant life gives a cornucopia of color when fall arrives. Northerly locations like New England have great color. However, you also have the high potential of experiencing cold, wet and snowy weather. The Southern position of the Tennessee Smokies provides leaf peepers with a better chance to experience warmer, sunny weather.

These old mountains display colors of fall in a fantastic topographical scene. The convolution of the ridges and hollows allow micro climates to exist. These places “march to their own drummer” when it comes to fall colors. Bright colors may appear first at the highest elevations, but some lower level plants begin color change based upon their own circadian rhythms. These rhythms are dictated by that particular plant species. Driving around The Smokies one can see the yellows of; Tulip Poplars, Beech, Walnut and Sassafras. Reds are supplied by; Sourwoods, Maples, Burning Bush and Virginia Creeper. Orange appears on; Poison Ivy, Sugar Maples and others. This leaf color selection is far from being complete. As we mentioned in years past, colors get changed by; hours of sunlight, rainfall, sod minerals, temperature, elevation and micro-climate in addition to plant species.

If you want to take in phenomenal Autumn leaf color  plan your viewing within the next few weeks. Serious wind and rain are known to strip the color quickly. Likewise, if you want that special Smoky Mountain home, you need to get going if you want to complete the process by year end.

Autumn in the Smoky Mountains is Special

Fall color is coming!

Many people have homes in Gatlinburg and other areas throughout the Tennessee Smokies.  Most folks will agree that Autumn here in the Smokies, is uniquely special.  For one thing, the biodiversity of the trees and plant life is greater in this area, than most places on our planet.  This diversity expresses the fall leaf color in an incredible display.  To add to this cornucopia of color, we have it displayed in a dramatic three dimensional presentation of mountain topography.  The display is further enhanced by the element of elevation.  The highest peaks above 6,000 feet are more in sync with the northern U.S.  Trees up high will begin their leaf color change and eventual drop, way before the low valleys and hollows.  The autumn process is opposite the leafing out of Spring.  Springtime sees the green of leaves move up the mountains and fall starts out high and moves down.  This magical display provided by the forces of Mother Nature is further enhanced by our own internal clocks.  The circadian rhythms go off inside just about everyone.  That little inner voice urges us ever more dramatically. “The hibernation time of winter is approaching! Get out and enjoy the warmth and beauty before it is gone!” Even Mother Nature lends a hand.  Our blistering heat from summer mellows, and the evening temperatures drop to jacket comfort.  Even the intensely-tropical humidity levels back off, as cooler, drier air moves in.  For many of us, outside temperatures are just about perfect.

Here are Some of the Local Activities Coming Up:

With the world of nature putting on the fall fireworks, the human-supplied activities also pick up their intensity. Autumn harvest festivals kick off all over the area.  The “Fall Colors in the Smoky Mountainsevent runs September 15th thru November 15th.  Colors can be enjoyed on hikes to; Albright Grove, Andrews Bald, Alum Cave and Mt LeConte, to name just a few.  Auto cruising through; Gatlinburg to Cherokee, Roaring Fork, Greenbriar, and Newfound Gap Rd provide awesome fall vistas.  For outdoor enthusiasts, September 25th-26th has the 11th “Annual Smoky Mountain Trout Tournament“.  The “Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival” begins September 17th and runs through October 31st.  This features great food, and plenty of arts and crafts.  Our local ski resort at Ober Gatlinburg celebrates their Bavarian heritage with an “Oktoberfest“, that runs October 1st-31st.  The Oktoberfest has; costumes, music, food, and drink that take everyone back to life in the German Alps.  This blog barely begins to reveal all the fun and interesting activities available here in the East Tennessee Smokies.

Go online to get a greater look at all the options you can enjoy.  While online, you can explore the possibilities of owning a home or other property in our area.  The spectrum of opportunities is endless.  You can look at primary or vacation homes, and view rental or other income properties.  All of this can be done at your own pace, in the privacy of your existing residence.  Furthermore, you can set personal parameters that save time in your search.  You receive available properties that only match your particular search criteria.  Begin your search today on our website!
